Never too old the learn
By Bruce Wade
I return for another day at this year’s UCT Summer School. Today’s lecture is on AI and the rise of the machines. This annual pilgrimage is the perfect way to kick-start my year with new insights and knowledge.
Typically, one would expect such an event to be filled with young students and early career opportunists wanting to get ahead of the curve in their lives. But the rooms at Summer School are filled with mostly older folk, plenty of grey hair and walking sticks. People want to stay ahead, learn something new and keep their brains active. It is a rare privilege to chat with people who have Learning as a common goal in life and share insights and find application.
From one lecture last week, I started a whole new business venture, which already has a new website and logo with products going to market in February.
We are never too old or too late to learn a new skill or find new insights for old perceptions. A day without learning and progress, for me, is like a day without oxygen.
