Everything You Were Taught About Success Was Wrong
By Bruce Wade
School gave us five lessons about how to succeed in life. Most of us followed them. Most of us found, at some point, that they led nowhere particularly interesting.
We were told: if you try harder, you will get better results. The truth is that effort in the wrong direction produces faster failure, not better results. The question is never how hard. The question is where.
We were told: the more you learn, the more you will earn. The truth is that information without application changes nothing. Knowledge only pays when it moves.
We were told: focus on your weaknesses and you become stronger. The truth is that the world’s highest performers do not build on weaknesses. They build on strengths until those strengths become extraordinary.
We were told: other people’s opinions should be taken as advice. The truth is that most unsolicited opinions are a projection of the giver’s own limitations, not a map of your potential.
We were told: focus on what you cannot control. The truth is that the brain moves toward what it dwells on. Dwelling on the uncontrollable is a one-way road to anxiety and learned helplessness.
These five lessons were designed to produce a compliant, predictable workforce. They were never designed to produce a free-thinking, purposeful human being.
The I Think Therefore I Feel webinar is about unlearning what does not serve you and rebuilding from what is already working. Join us. Start thinking for yourself.
This week we will unpack some these and other things that we need to first unlearn, before we can move forward. Book your seat today. https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/JrGeqCkjQlKF-8xYd41zmw
