Why 2 Thinkers Are Better Than 1
By Bruce Wade
Thinking with someone else will add your thoughts to their thoughts and give you thoughts you could not have on your own. Thinking is a team sport and should never be done alone or in isolation.
It is the best and brightest thinkers on the planet who seek out others to bounce ideas around with and find new solutions for the big problems. Thinking retreats or remote islands (if you can afford it) are a popular way new innovative ways to fly to space, develop hyperloops, build electric cars and solve economic and political crises. But most of us are not at that level, and access to retreats on islands is hard to come by.
So what can we do? The answer is Masterminds. Masterminds, not the best choice of name, are a collection of like-minded people who meet regularly to achieve a common goal. Often sharing and allowing for feedback and collaborative thought. This is done while breaking bread, sipping wine or good coffee, all help achieve the desired goal: support for thoughts.
But always, without fail, a thought shared is a thought developed. A thought kept secret is a slow death of what could be a brilliant concept. So how do we then share without the risk of our ideas being stolen and plagiarised? Trust. The principal foundation for any Mastermind needs to be Trust. Confidentiality is trust, and these need to be the backbone of all we do within such groups.
So, when next time you have a great idea, write it down, and it will not be forgotten. Then find someone or some others to share it with in a confidential, trustworthy environment and allow your idea to become bigger, brighter and mature into what it was initially thought to be.
