The Sphere of Mankind – Core

By Bruce Wade

The sphere of mankind is a model created to help us unpack and understand the motivation of the human life. This and the following articles are a brief overview of what the model depicts and how it could relate to your life.

Introduction

The Sphere of Mankind is a sphere that can be held in your hand: it has an outer skin or shell with a solid core that runs through the sphere from north to south, like an apple. The sphere can be cut into 16 horizontal slices, each slice sharing the outer shell and the inner core. Each slice represents a different aspect or dimension of our life.

To start with we will be exploring the slice that details our very composition together with the function, purpose and outworking of the various segments or parts.

But before we delve deep into the meaning of life, let’s peek at the shell and core first. These two are linked and determine how everything else with our lives operate and are reflected to others.

The Core

The Core of the sphere denotes the thing that is most important to us. The item, person, or concept that we hold most dear to ourselves. It may be a real item such as a new car, guitar, or laptop. It could also be something a bit more abstract like health or happiness, or a person: your spouse, child, or parents. It may also reach out to be a belief or deep emotion that drives you. Your belief in God or nature or yourself, would also fit into his small inner circle. Whatever your core is currently, it is what drives you and influences all that you do.

If I must ask you to write down in ink, what the most important aspect of your life is at this time, what would you write?

If you could cross this out and write something else that is more important, what else would you write?

Repeat this until you have found your true-to-self core.
