The 4D Year-End Strategy
By Bruce Wade
As we fast approach the end of 2025 and plans are made for celebration, holidays and hopefully some downtime, it is important to apply some form of strategy to allow for the transition between the years. No, I know that one day to the next is just a day, and this whole year-end, holidays, and planning is just a human thing to make money and write blogs about planning, but this is not one of those things.
May I suggest that you read this and then apply the 4D strategy to your life, business, family and finances now as a tester and then maybe use it every month for next year. It works, it is simple and easy to learn and oh yes, it works.
So, here it is, the 4D strategy to get shit done.
- Do it – as things come into your radar, just do it. Allocate a small time to get it done if time allows. Handling a task once is easy when you build up a habit to do so. It is just as easy to put things aside and develop a pile of stuff to do in your in-tray. This is never productive. Handle it once, get it done and move on.
- Dump It – how much time is spent ‘playing’ with a task that is irrelevant, unimportant and a waste of time. Learning to dump things that are not key or crucial to your focus will help you stay on track and keep from all those side roads of distraction and diversion. Dump what is not key. No one will even notice.
- Delegate it – if a task can’t be done now, schedule it in your diary for another time when you have space. This takes the issue out of your conscious brain and allows you to think clearly without having to remember what you need to remember. Diarise items are then done when scheduled and ticked off.
- Diarise it- all other tasks still on the list now need to be delegated to other people or functions. But not without a clear handover, some insurance on feedback and a high level of confidence in the ability of those who have been delegated. It may take some initial time and effort to build such a team, but the investment is worth every minute later when you can relax in the knowledge that the work is being done, and not by you.
This 4D strategy can be applied to daily, weekly and monthly tasks. But it is also important to look at your current work list and do a wide sweep of what needs to be done before the end of 2025. What needs to be done, really. What can be dumped, oh yeah. What can be diarised for next year, yes and what can be given to someone else to do for you. 4D, do it, relax and recuperate without the stress of lingering issues.
